LEXINGTON, KY. (July 2, 2025) – One lane of West High Street from Merino Street to Madison Place will be closed from Monday, July 7, to Friday, July 25 to reconstruct speed tables and improve roadway drainage. Other utilities will be working in the same area during the closure.
The lane closure will last for 24 hours/day. First, the right lane will be closed for approximately two weeks. When that lane reopens, the left lane will be closed. Signage will be in place to guide drivers.
This closure will allow reconstruction of the two speed tables on West High Street near Merino Street and Madison Place. While lanes are closed, additional stormwater inlets will be installed to reduce water ponding on West High Street when it rains. The two speed tables that were previously installed on West High Street in front of Rupp Arena are unaffected by this project.
Speed tables are longer and flatter than speed bumps. They can be effective at slowing down drivers that go too fast. Through reduced speeds on this section of West High Street, overall roadway safety is expected to improve.
The Central Bank Center loading dock will continue to be accessed via Manchester Street at West High Street. Manchester Street, Ty Court and the Central Bank Center garage will be accessed via Oliver Lewis Way through a newly opened roundabout.
