LEXINGTON, KY. (Oct. 14, 2025) — Fayette County residents can dispose of household materials such as paint and cleaners at Lexington’s fall Household Hazardous Waste Day this Saturday, Oct. 18. The collection event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike. Participants should enter via Jimmie Campbell Drive.
Household hazardous waste includes paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, pesticides and more. Improper disposal of these chemicals can pollute air, water or soil and pose a threat to human health. Electronic waste items will also be collected at the event.
Vape pens, e-cigarettes and single-use vapes contain lithium-ion batteries. This is electronic waste and should not be littered or disposed of in trash or recycling carts because it can cause fires. Vape waste that contains lithium-ion batteries can be brought to this event for safe disposal. Containers for liquid nicotine that do not contain batteries should be thrown in the trash, never in a recycling cart.
Event reminders:
- Participants should not arrive before 8:30 a.m.
- Materials should be loaded in your vehicle’s backseat, trunk or truck bed in boxes that you do not need back.
- Separate electronics from the rest of your household hazardous waste. These will be collected separately before the rest of your materials.
- Pop the trunk when staff ask so they can unload materials. Remain in your vehicle at all times.
- Fill out the online survey before you come. No paper copies will be distributed or collected.
- Households only. No businesses, please.
Accepted items and the online survey are available at lexingtonky.gov/HHWevent.
